Check around to see where the dance schools and karate schools are. Some girls like yoga. See if you can get referrals from someone you trust. Don't forget about Girl Scouts, 4H clubs, YMCA, YWCA, and other community centers. Be sure they are well supervised and visit them yourself to get a feel of the facilities.
Many of the same things above can also apply to boys. You still want to check them out completely before entrusting the guys' health and safety when you're not there.

If you live in the city, you might check out Meetup Groups. Nearly everything a person could be interested in has a group associated with it. They get together and socialize and do things having to do with the mutual interest. You can even start your own group and find new friends that way. If you are in a more rural area, there still may be some meetup groups nearby.
Religion? If you used to go to a church or synagogue or if you still do, it might be a safe pace to socialize and maybe get involved with some projects or volunteer projects. Other things to try could include doing a class in Yoga, painting, drawing, dancing, self-defense,or even ceramics. Look around where you are and see what you can find.
What could you share that you do to socialize in groups? Is school maybe in your future?
Talk to your friends and see what they're doing. Throw a party or help with one. You could just spend time with a friend or two. It's to easy to just hide, so get out there!
